What is an immigration and asylum expert witness?
An expert witness provides independent, reasoned opinion evidence on country conditions, risk on return, medical or psychological sequelae of persecution, trafficking indicators, or related issues relevant to immigration and asylum proceedings in the United Kingdom.
Which tribunals and courts do you cover?
We prepare reports for the First-tier Tribunal (Immigration and Asylum Chamber), the Upper Tribunal, judicial review in the High Court, and related appellate work across England and Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
How quickly can a report be commissioned?
Most enquiries receive a same-day response during UK business hours (GMT/BST). Urgent hearings within 48 hours should be flagged by telephone as well as the enquiry form so we can confirm capacity.
What materials should solicitors provide?
A clear letter of instruction, relevant Home Office and tribunal bundles, medical records where applicable, and any prior expert reports. Incomplete bundles delay scoping and may affect turnaround.
Are reports CPR-compliant?
Reports are prepared with the duties of an expert in mind under CPR Part 35 (and equivalent tribunal guidance), including independence, clarity of opinion, and the limits of expertise.
Do you give oral evidence?
Yes, where the brief requires it. Availability for remote or in person evidence should be confirmed when the report is commissioned so that listing can be planned.
How is confidentiality handled?
Case materials are handled under professional confidentiality, with encrypted transfer options where required and access limited to those working on the matter.
What should I include in an enquiry?
Your name, firm email, telephone number, matter type (for example asylum appeal or trafficking), hearing date if known, and a short note on the issues for opinion. We will confirm scope and fees in writing.
